Biographical/Historical Information
Henry P. Hammett, founder of Piedmont Manufacturing, began building the mill and its surrounding village in 1874. By 1876, the mill began operations. Henry Hammett died in 1891, but due to his leadership, Piedmont Manufacturing was the world’s number one producer of cotton textiles by 1900.

The collection consists of various business correspondence, records and ledgers, local sports, school material, social/civil organizations, mill operations technical manuals, yearbooks, local newspapers and news articles surrounding daily life or the mill and village.
